Mount Kenya Climbing Expeditions

Mount Kenya Hiking Adventure
Mount Kenya is the most popular trekking mountain in the country. While most tourists know Kenya as a beach holiday and safari country, the second highest mountain peak in Africa offers great opportunities for active sport tourism in front of a fascinating landscape. Although it is located on the equator, but at an altitude of between 2,200 and 5,200 meters above sea level, the main peak Batian attracts all year round with its snow-covered glaciers.

Landscape and wildlife at Mount Kenya
Starting from the very bottom on foot, one experiences an impressively diverse landscape. First, the path leads through mixed deciduous forest, gallery forests, through the humid tropical climate of the Afro-Alpine rainforest at the foot of the massif, then it continues through rain forests, bamboo groves, giant heather and hagenia trees, raised bogs with mosses, lichens and tussock grasslands.

Further up the path, you walk through giant senecio and lobelia all the way to the top of the glacier plain with stone and ice landscapes. In total, the area is populated by 800 plant species, including 81 endemic species - a firework of rare, tropical, but also undemanding nature.
